Imagine… You’re walking
on top of what used to be the
wall.
CITYSNAPPER_5 |Berlin| sHoW is an installation where you can visit Berlin
East and West at the same time, and focus on the status of reunification.
It is meant to be a snapshot of the urban context 16 years after the fall
of the Berlin wall. How much are the two halves reunited today? There
is not one single and easy answer. This is why this subjective portrait
of the city was created, bringing together the photographer’s view
and the Berliners’ points of view, through images and street interviews
collected in 2005.
Taking part in the making of the ‘Citysnapper
portrait’ of Berlin:
Instead of exploring East then West or the reverse, you are invited to
walk on the layout of the former Wall… Locations equidistant from
the wall are united as pairs which are metaphorical stitches. Stand on
the different hotspots and your footstep will activate the two screens
which correspond to East and West. You will be able to see the two locations,
translated into either images or statements from Berlin citizens from
all social backgrounds. These statements are excerpts from street interviews
and reflect Berlin’s diversity as much as the images. Visitors can
add their own statement by sending a text message using their cell phone.
Their contribution will be added to the installation.
